RE-VISION MEETINGS AND WEBSITE ANNOUNCEMENT
Statement of the Southwest Parke Community School Corporation
January 12, 2026

The Southwest Parke Community School Corporation has concluded its investigation of the incident that occurred on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the conclusion of the boys basketball game at Riverton Parke High School. The school investigation included review of all relevant video from the premises and interviews with several students, staff members who were present, and game officials.

Video evidence from the parking lot shows a student from the visiting school using a fist to strike a student from Riverton Parke High School. Video evidence shows a number of parents from both the visiting school and from Riverton Parke High School intervened and quickly separated the students. Video evidence shows that within minutes several law enforcement personnel and EMS were on the scene, having been alerted to the incident via a 911 call.

Social media reports of this situation have included accusations of racism on the part of Riverton Parke High School and its students. Such accusations are extremely hurtful to the school, its students, and its staff members. Interviews conducted with those who were present - students, staff members, and game officials - do not corroborate the accusation of racism in this incident.

The Southwest Parke Community School Corporation would like to commend the staff members who were present for their work with the students, families, and law enforcement officials The Corporation would like to commend the parents and students who remained calm during this situation. The Corporation would also like to commend law enforcement officials and EMS personnel for their rapid response and assistance.

Notice of Special Meeting - Tuesday, January 6, 2026 - 7 PM
Please see the message below from the SWP Corporation Office:

It appears that winter weather may be making another appearance in the near future. As such, students arrive home today with learning tools that would be used for elearning. Currently, we have one asynchronous (student self-paced) elearning day remaining. After that day has been used, we will need to conduct synchronous elearning. Synchronous elearning is different from our other elearning days. On a synchronous elearning day, students have specific times they need to be logged onto their devices to interact with teachers and other students. Individual schools will provide you with details regarding times to be logged in. If your student will be absent from the synchronous elearning period due to illness or appointments, please contact the school as you usually would for an absence.

The learning tools sent home today should be used if an elearning day is called. If no elearning day is called, the tools should be returned to school fully charged for use.

Below is the plan regarding the Christmas program in the event that weather interferes with our normal school day tomorrow.

If we are on a two-hour delay:
The PK–Grade 2 program will be moved to 12:00 p.m. and the Grades 3–6 program will be moved to 1:00 p.m.

If we are closed and have an e-learning day:
The program will be canceled and will not be rescheduled.

We are hopeful for an on-time arrival and for the programs to be held at their originally scheduled times: PK–Grade 2 at 9:00 a.m. and Grades 3–6 at 10:00 a.m.

Parent(s)/Guardian(s) — Most students have completed and returned their e-learning packets from Monday and Tuesday. THANK YOU! If your student has not yet turned in their packets, please have them do so tomorrow. If they are not turned in by Friday, your student will be counted absent, and their grade will reflect the missing work.
