Riverton Parke FFA Members Fare Well at State Livestock Skillathon Contest
Four Riverton Parke FFA members qualified and competed in the State Livestock Skillathon Contest held Saturday, October 3rd at the Boone County Fairgrounds. At the state contest, members compete in both individual and team portions of the contest. In the individual portion, members must identify various cuts of meat, livestock breeds, feeds and livestock equipment, take a quiz over the animal science industry, complete a quality assurance quiz, and judge classes of meat, wool, and hay. In the team portion, members work together to complete various exercises relating to animal science. As a team, Jase Martin, Owen Spencer, Molly McCammon, and Jayda Buza placed 6th Overall out of 32 teams. Individually, Jase Martin placed 18th, Owen Spencer placed 31st, and Molly McCammon placed 49th out of 127 individuals. The Livestock Skillathon Team is coached by FFA advisor, Michaela Woods.

Riverton Parke 8th Grade Attends Wonders of the Wetlands Event
8th-grade students from Riverton Parke Jr./Sr. High School had the opportunity to get up close and personal with fish and other wetland wildlife during the 27th Annual 4-H Wonders of Wetlands, hosted by the Purdue Extension Office on Wednesday, September 30th. The event gave students a unique hands-on learning experience right in the backyard of a Duke Energy power plant.
Throughout the day, students learned about many different aspects of wetlands and the important role they play in our environment. Topics included entomology, marine life and river ecology, waterfowl, beavers and muskrats, riparian buffers, telemetry, water filtration, Treasures on the Wabash, conservation efforts, and more. Students also learned about engineering and how water from the Wabash River is used at the power plant.
The experience gave students a chance to take their learning outside of the classroom and see firsthand how wildlife, conservation, science, and engineering all connect within their local environment.

Staff Chili Cookoff Winners🏆
The Annual Riverton Parke Staff Chili Cookoff took place today. During lunch, staff members taste tested the different chilis brought in and submitted votes for their favorite. Miss Sanders received the most votes in the cookoff, winning the coveted traveling trophy to be displayed in her room the rest of the school year and a gift card! Miss Maynard was in 2nd, and Mr. Garman was in 3rd. Both received gift card prizes as well. Congratulations to these RP staff members!

Students in Riverton Parke’s Equipment Operating class had the opportunity to compete in the Golden Shovel Competition sponsored by Milestone held in Chesterfield, Indiana on Thursday, October 1st. Students put their equipment operating skills to the test while competing in a hands-on event designed to challenge their precision, safety, and ability to operate equipment effectively. The competition gave students a chance to gain real-world experience, learn from others in the industry, and showcase the skills they have developed in class. We are proud of all the students who participated and represented our school. A big thank you to Milestone for sponsoring the competition and giving our students this opportunity! Brody Cobb is the instructor for the Equipment Operating class.

Five Riverton Parke High School students received national recognition for their academic achievements in school and outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT through the College Board National Recognition Program/Big Future. This distinction will enable these students to highlight their outstanding educational performance to top colleges and universities. It also puts them into a pool with other National Recognition recipients to vie for National Merit Scholarships and other individually awarded college scholarships. This year’s recipients from Riverton Parke include; Two-time National Recognition recipients are seniors: Jazlynn Hill - Rural and Small Town Recognition Award, First-Generation Recognition Award, Jace Shouse - Rural and Small Town Recognition Award; Receiving National Recognition are juniors: Brian Todd - School Recognition Award, Lillian Haughee - Rural and Small Town Recognition Award, First-Generation Recognition Award, School Recognition Award, and Riley Blankenship - School Recognition Award. Riverton Parke FFA Competes in Region Soil Judging Contest
The Riverton Parke FFA Soil Judging Team traveled to Darlington, Indiana on Thursday, September 24th to compete in the West Central Regional Soils Contest. In the Soils Career Development Event (CDE), students must evaluate a soil pit to determine several soil characteristics such as texture, color and drainage. They then use those characteristics to determine suitability and cropping practices as well as building practices for a homesite. Members of the high school team included Cathleen McKee, Raylan Swinford, Andy Yeargin, and Kinsleigh Ugoletti. Andy Yeargin placed 18th overall and the team placed 18th. Members of the junior high soils team included Connor Comar, Brooklyn Compton, Mathis White, and Marilla White. Mathis White placed 8th, Marilla White placed 9th, and the team placed 4th overall. The junior high team will advance to the state contest which will be held on Saturday, October 17th in Clay County. The soil judging team is coached by FFA advisor, Micah Humphreys.

The Varsity Football Game vs. Attica scheduled for this Friday (10/2) has been CANCELLED!
The Southwest Parke Board of School Trustees will meet in Executive Session on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at 6 PM. The meeting will be held in the Corporation Office.
