Riverton Parke FFA Celebrates FFA Week

The Riverton Parke FFA Chapter celebrated National FFA Week, February 21st - 26th.  Each day had an assigned dress-up day: Tuesday was Farmer Day, Wednesday was “Goin’ Hunting” (Wear Camo or Blaze Orange), Thursday was Blue and Gold Day, and Friday was Livestock Show Day (Wear Your Best Showday Apparel).  Drive Your Tractor or Truck to School Day was Tuesday.  Six members had the opportunity to attend FFA Advocacy Day (hosted by Indiana Farm Bureau) at the Indiana Statehouse on Wednesday.  School was canceled on Thursday due to the winter storm that moved throughout the county, so the Teacher Appreciation Breakfat and Corn Hole Tournament were postponed until the following week.  The Teacher Appreciation Breakfast took place on Monday, February 28th.  The chapter had a breakfast buffet for the staff members at Riverton Parke to show their appreciation and thank them for all they do.  The Corn Hole Tournament finally took place on Thursday, March 3rd.  In total, 9 teams participated in the tournament.  Bradley McElheny and Logan Johnson were the overall champions followed by Brayden Griffin and Lane Anstett in second place.  On the last Saturday of FFA week, the chapter held its Annual Farmer’s Breakfast.  Local farmers and their families were served a pancake breakfast as a way for the chapter to thank them for their continued support of the chapter and community.  Throughout the week, the chapter also hosted a “Kiss the Goat” contest.  Students could select which staff member they wanted to see kiss a goat by donating money.  The staff members who raised the most money and had to kiss the goat were Mr. Josh Jacobs (Math Teacher) and SRO Brad McNeil.  In total, over $100 was raised.  This money will be donated to the Parke Vermillion County Humane Society.  The chapter FFA advisors are Micah Humphreys and Michaela Woods.
