The Riverton Parke Jr./Sr. High School staff and student body honored America’s military veterans in a special Veterans Day program on November 11. The ceremony opened with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Alyssa Fellows and the singing of our National Anthem by RP senior Jessica Pharris. An informative and inspirational speech was shared by guest speaker, Ben Baker. Mr. Baker is retired from the U.S. Army, and he now works in custody at the Rockville Correctional Facility. A remembrance ceremony was conducted, and then special quilt presentations were made to local veterans from the Old Glory Quilters. A total of five beautiful quilts were given to veterans in attendance. The National Honor Society presented Old Glory Quilters with a donation of $500 towards continuation of the group’s excellent cause. Rounding out the ceremony was Riverton Parke’s band playing the Armed Forces Medley and a flag folding ceremony with a demonstration by Seth McConnell and Derek Lebron. The Veterans Day program was organized by RP’s National Honor Society and sponsor Kristi Johnson.
