Riverton Parke FFA Sweeps Area Livestock Skillathon Contest
Members of the Riverton Parke FFA Chapter competed in the Area V Livestock Skillathon Contest held at the Clay County Fairgrounds on Monday, September 13th. The Livestock Skillathon Contest tests members' knowledge on various aspects of the animal industry. Members must identify breeds, feeds, equipment, and cuts of meat, plus take a quality assurance and industry quiz. The senior team, consisting of Sarah Brown, Ray Brown, Katilynn Koch, and Kenzie Travis, placed 1st overall in the senior division. Sarah Brown was the overall high point senior individual, and Ray Brown followed in second place. Katilynn Koch placed 9th overall. Wyatt Koch competed in the individual contest and placed 11th overall. The junior team, consisting of Sophie Sanders, Emily Adams, Thomas Plant, and Kenzie Mundell, placed 1st overall in the junior division. Sophie Sanders was the overall high point junior individual, and Emily Adams followed in second place. Thomas Plant placed 5th overall, and Kenzie Mundell placed 9th. The second junior team, consisting of Brayden Griffin, Rhylie Cannon, and Keaton Travis, placed 4th overall in the junior division. Chapter advisor and coach, Michaela Woods, stated, “I am extremely proud of this group of FFA members. Some of these students started studying the Livestock Skillathon materials over summer break, and their hard work and dedication really paid off. We are all looking forward to the opportunity to compete in the state contest in a couple of weeks.” The winning junior and senior teams will compete in the State Livestock Skillathon Contest on October 2nd held at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds.
