Riverton Parke Groups Team up to Help
\r\n

Members of the Riverton Parke High School National Honor Society recently met with Evan Lunsford, a representative of the Parke County Resource Center (Rosedale Food Pantry).  They were given a tour of the facility and an explanation of the needs of the community it serves. Lunsford said many families do not have the means to cook, even if food is available. After learning of this need, the group felt compelled to help. The National Honor Society collected kitchen utensils, dish towels, pot holders, oven mitts, and small appliances, new or gently used, to help those in need. The NHS is sponsored by Kristi Johnson.

Mrs. Leslie Gackle’s Family and Consumer Science (FACS) class got wind of the project and decided to pitch in. They made pot holders, oven mitts, and trivets to donate, too. They have made about 80 items so far with a goal of 100.

The Parke County Resource Center is located at 52 Middle Street in Rosedale, Indiana. They accept food donations of all kinds; boxed and canned goods, fresh produce, milk, eggs, fresh and frozen meats, etc.  Items can be dropped off during the Town Hall business hours. Monetary donations are also welcomed. Donated cash provides things such as diapers, OTC medications, hygiene products, and cleaning supplies.
