Supporting Literacy by Gifting to Little Libraries

The Riverton Parke High School National Honor Society continues to exemplify their charter’s character of service by contributing to worthy causes and performing services in their community. For this project, the group collected children’s books for the Little Free Libraries in Mecca and Rosedale. The Little Free Libraries are intended to be a children’s book exchange to encourage literacy in rural areas that do not have libraries within walking distance. The motto is: “Take a book--Leave a book.” There is a Little Library in Rosedale next to the Dollar General. It is sponsored by Mike and Joan Lunsford. There is also a Little Library box in the parking lot just south of the Wesleyan Church in Mecca. It is sponsored by Parke Adult Tutoring Services (PATS). The NHS is sponsored by Kristi Johnson.

Shown with their book donations are NHS members, pictured in front from left, Sarah Livers, Kelsie Blair, Sage Kinsey, and Sydney Myers. In the back are, Anna Porter, Katie Watson, Maddy Griffin, and Lindsey Peterson.
