Members of the Riverton Parke FFA Chapter competed in the Area V Livestock Skillathon Contest on Wednesday, September 13th held at the Clay County Fairgrounds. The Livestock Skillathon Contest tests members' knowledge on various aspects of the animal industry. Members must identify breeds, feeds, equipment, and cuts of meat, plus take a quality assurance and industry quiz.
In the senior division with 24 teams and 90 individuals, the Riverton Parke senior teams secured both the first and second place honors. The first place team consisted of Sarah Brown, Jack Harrah, Emily Adams, and Sophie Sanders. The second place team consisted of Katilynn Koch, Joel Harrah, Thomas Koch, and Jase Martin. Individually, Riverton Parke took home 8 of the ‘Top 10’ individual placings. Sophie Sanders placed 2nd overall, Sarah Brown placed 3rd overall, Emily Adams placed 4th overall, Joel Harrah placed 5th overall, Jack Harrah placed 7th overall, Thomas Koch placed 8th overall, Jase Martin placed 9th overall, and Katilynn Koch placed 10th overall. Both of the senior teams will compete in the State Contest held at the Purdue Animal Science Research and Education Center in West Lafayette in October.
In the junior division with 16 teams and 64 individuals, the Riverton Parke junior team placed 7th overall. Team members included Ryder Stone, Kason Johnson, and Kasyn Travis. Individually, Ryder Stone placed 18th overall, Kason Johnson placed 24th overall, and Kasyn Travis placed 36th overall. The Livestock Skillathon team is coached by FFA advisor, Michaela Woods.
