Livestock Skillathon Team Fares Well at Area Contest

The Riverton Parke FFA Livestock Skillathon Team competed at the Area V Contest on Wednesday, September 11th held at the Clay County Fairgrounds.  Livestock Skillathon is a contest that tests students’ knowledge on various livestock production related topics. At the area level, students had to identify different feeds, meats, equipment, and breeds, as well as take an industry and quality assurance quiz.  Two of Riverton Parke’s teams qualified for the state contest which will be held at Purdue University on September 21st. The junior team, consisting of Sarah Brown (overall high individual), Wyatt Koch (3rd overall), Katilynn Koch (7th overall), and Kenzie Travis (15th overall), was the champion junior team.  The senior team, consisting of KayRae Chapman (4th overall), Catelin Chapman (7th overall), Logan Harrison (10th overall), and Ray Brown (11th overall), was the reserve champion senior team. Other FFA members who competed in the contest included Myla Brown, Emilee Hartzler, Tyler Nelson, and Haley Romanyk. FFA Advisor and Skillathon Coach, Michaela Woods, stated, “I am so proud of these students.  After barely missing the cutoff for state qualification last year, these students came back with a goal to qualify for the state contest. Their hardwork and dedication has really paid off, and we are excited for the opportunity to compete at state this year.”
